Valentine I Hate, Christ I Love

Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for friends.” John 15:13
When I first heard the word "love" my heart leap for joy. I was happy not because love is something very strange to me but for what love represent in the life of a man is incomparable. There have been many ways people described love due to one circumstances or the other they found themselves.
Love to some people for sharing of belonging to others in need. These people can give whatever they have to satisfy others even at their own expense. Some see love as romantic tales that must be listened to every time. Others see love as trade and barter, you give me I give you. What is love to you?
It is on this premise that I was mad at valentine when I heard that he symbolizes love. All my expectations were that valentine will replicate what Christ has taught us. I was thinking that the qualities that surrounded love are embedded in uncle valentine, only to find out that I was totally wrong.
I realized this when I thought to know why valentine has to come only on 14th February. Is it that we should show on this day alone? If out of 365 days in a year, we see 14th February as a day of love then something is wrong somewhere.
Do you know I hate you valentine? I hate because you didn't represent what I stand for. I hate you because you allow the teaching of Christ to go in vain in our lives. Rather people chose to idolize you all in the name of showing love to others.
Valentine day is no longer a safe day. Teenagers see this day as a day to have fun. They see it as a day to express their love to others. Even though it is good to show love to others, is it by selling out your body to the opposite sex? Many teenagers are lost in this area. Percentages of virginity that become things of the past happen on this day.
I hate you valentine. Take a look at our youths how they have taken to smoking, drug abuse and excessive drinking just to celebrate you. Take look at the number of pregnancies recorded on this day by teenage girls just because they want to secure their relationships. Take look at how our future glory falling apart because they want to enjoy now and forgetting that there is no crown without a cross to carry.
Valentine! Valentine!! Valentine!!! For how long will you continue to deceive us? For how long are we going be free from this bound we found ourselves?  In case you wondering why I hate you, valentine, I don’t believe that celebration of love should come on a day rather let is it be every day. Perhaps we should change our days to valentine days. We should change our weeks to valentine weeks and our months to valentine months. Anything short of this is a deceit and plans to steal our virtues.
Listen!!!  Christ has set us free “greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for friends”. If the world has found in love on 14th February, we have found love in Christ. The love of Christ is giving us assurance of things to come. Don't even try to earn Christ's love. He's already given all of His Love and proved it by dying for you. So, just believe what He said “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” John 6:37.

"My son, give me thy heart; And let thine eyes delight in my ways” Proverbs 23:26. Rather than giving your life to unprofitable ventures why can’t you give your life to Jesus? He is the Love that will never go dim or fails.
