verse: But the Lord said unto him, go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto
me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel.
Acts 9:15
Chosen vessel simply depicts
a desired and selected tool or instrument out of many. In a real life sense, no
one can choose any tool as being precious to him without considering the
usefulness of such tool to him. For any vessel to be a chosen one, such vessel
must have been desired by the user and singled out of a variety of vessels that
are not chosen. They might not be chosen probably because they are not useful
to the user at that particular time or perhaps they had not been satisfactorily
perfected towards the user’s choice for a particular goal.
Chosen vessel unto God simply means a desired
and singled out instrument of honour by God and for the use of God. Also, this
might be referred to as calling into the son-ship of God through brokenness of
heart and acceptance of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. No one comes unto this
position except God chooses him/her. The recommendation is done by God himself.
God makes his selection out of his abundant mercy bestows on man. This implies
that, being a chosen vessel unto God is not of man’s self effort or
righteousness rather out of infinite mercy of God. This poses a question: How
are you using your position as a chosen vessel of honour? You need to be
sensitive to the fact that, you are chosen out of the multitude not by your
good works but by the abundant mercy of God which can as well be extended to
others among whom God is liable to raise to substitute you if you abuse the
rare opportunity extended to you.
When man receives this rare favour, the following are God’s
expectations of man:
Ø Such man
should appreciate God’s love towards him and remain in this position unto the
end.
Ø Such
must be willing at all times to serve as God’s errand vessel showing forth
God’s praises unto the world through witnessing.
Ø Such
must shun anything that will misrepresent God in the world which can as well
turn him/her to a vessel of dishonour.
Ø Such
must value this position and prove to the world that he/she is truly chosen of
God.
Ø Such
must aspire to make himself/herself more useful daily to God that chooses them.
Ø Such
must not be boastful, seeing he/she in this position rather humble themselves
and cleave unto God to uphold them with His right hand of righteousness to the
end.
It is possible for anyone to lose this rare
opportunity as a chosen vessel such as: Judas Iscariot, Saul, the king of
Israel lost their own when they abused their being honoured as chosen vessels.
Hence, be mindful of who you are in God.
PRAYER: I
declare, you will not lose your position of honour in God in Jesus Christ’s
name. (Amen).
