ARMY CHIEF CHARGES STAKEHOLDERS ON ACADEMIC SUCCESS

In its effort to bring about a radical change in the study habit and pattern of learners, in consciousness of the fact that awareness is the beginning of change, Standard Mandate international (SMI) gathered over one thousand final year secondary school students in Lagos to activate innate thinking ability deposited in them and carefully diluted it with what has been learnt both within and outside the classroom environment so as to achieve academic success.
While addressing the participants the chairman of the occasion and Director of Directorate Command School Services, Colonel Jubi Joseph Iferi charged the students to work hard if they want to achieve excellent in their examinations. Colonel Iferi said that all the final year students have to do is to study their books, compare what they have been taught with what they supposed to have been taught make up for all the differences and get set for the examination.
The Army Colonel wants the students to erase in their minds what they tagged difficult subjects as the case may be. He posited that there is no difficult subject rather there can only be a difficult mind.
He sound it to the students not to allow anybody to sow the seeds of failures into their lives by telling them that examinations are very difficult to pass therefore they have to cheat.
Col. Iferi enjoined them to translate their potentials to the next generation so that the society can have expected leaders of tomorrow from them.
The chairman of the occasion advised the parents to encourage their children in order to achieve academic success. He pointed out that what the need to do parents to assist their children by giving them opportunities to build themselves up.
He said “if the parent is knowledgeable in the subjects’ areas, discuss with the child, share opinion and listen to the child talk. If the parent is not knowledgeable in the subjects areas such parent can give the child the opportunity to build up himself by encouraging the child love reading, taking away all the distractions”.
The army colonel posited that if the parents failed to do their part, the children will not be encouraged to study hard.
On the part of the school, the army colonel wants the schools to queue into SMI ideas so that they can assist in bridging the knowledge gap in the society. He reiterated that there is no static knowledge therefore schools must move at the pace of incoming knowledge so that they can impact on their students.

In his welcome address, the convener and Chief Executive Officer of SMI Mr. Nelson Ayodele while speaking on the theme “Exploring Critical Thinking for Real Academic Success” advised the students to prepare adequately in order to achieve better performance in their final year examinations.
